I made this piece over the period of many months. A night here, a night there. so altogether I've spent about three nights at it. It was made a gift for my partner, who's got it framed on their wall.
The two figures line art and instruments were drawn with a glass pen which is why the lines are so fluid and loose. I had no intention of making the character's flawlessly correct in their anatomy, though looking back it would have made the image stronger.
The two figures are playing their instruments together. Mentally connected through the sounds they produce, the female figure is androgynous by nature and her flute is creating a beast of sorts, flowery creations.
The male figure is characterised as a Dylan or Lennon figure, because those two people had many identities. This is why i titled the piece Thespians (Actors). to say a front man or lead singer has many different sides to themselves, characters, is something I've found often in music. Artists change and evolve throughout their career like actors take on different roles.
Great job - I love the fluid way the characters merge with one another. In fact I almost didn't notice the lower right-hand character, until my eyes drifted down the first one's arm. Also, the feathery smoke is amazing!
I just wanted to add that I love the thought you put into all of your work; your explanations make it clear that you really think about your pieces and want to portray something deeper than the obvious with them.
you make me want to get over my fear of water colors
